Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Season’s Greetings! We are thankful for a year of opportunities and challenges. Mary and 4 of the children have been diagnosed with asthma but overall, we give thanks for our good health, and for the well being of our extended family and friends. Our prayers are with each of you who are struggling with various health/emotional issues.

Sean continues to work at JTA Architects in Park City. He has been blessed to have several clients who are braving the current economic downturn to continue with their projects. He has been lead architect for a custom ski-in/ski-out residential project in Deer Valley. There are 17 units, 5 of which have sold for 5-6 million each! Sean will be enjoying snowboarding for his 3rd year. He also took Mary on her first fly-fishing outing and a few rounds on the golf course.

Mary just completed a course to become a Basic EMT and has state exams soon. She has enjoyed her classes. She also became C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) trained and has helped the police with some community events. She is still a Crossing Guard and Treasurer for 2D3 Inc. She enjoyed fishing and golfing with Sean. She also took up snowboarding and is enjoying the outdoor activities in the Wasatch Mountains. She and Sean really enjoy long bike rides together here in paradise. She again played women’s basketball. She had her 25th class reunion this summer in Iowa, and enjoyed visiting with old friends and family.

Jed and Jessica still live close. Jed is working for an Audio/Video company in Park City. He installs equipment in homes there. Some of the homes he works in are the same ones that Sean designs. He has also been in the homes of a few celebrities, which he finds quite cool. Jessica is working for the Dairy Keen and nearby Motel. Jessica’s highlight was catching a baby frog in Iowa this summer.

Jacob went to work for JTA Architects as a draftsman. He has become proficient in the same software that Sean uses and this opened the door to that opportunity. He is attending UVU as a student and is currently training to become a pilot.

Gillian is a Senior! She is looking forward to graduation and desires to become a massage therapist. She took up snowboarding as well. She worked at Jordanelle State Park in the summer (which gave us free camping at the lake, Yay!) She is currently looking for employment. She is doing after school tutoring at an elementary school in reading.

Jackson is in Jr high. He is a First Class Scout and will be a Life Scout (one away from Eagle) in January. He is on his 3rd year of snowboarding. He played soccer and baseball. He’s now playing basketball. He is taking a martial arts class at school and is an excellent student.

Joseph is a bundle of energy and much like Jacob was. Joseph took up snowboarding last winter, he has no fear, and took off on some trails that Dad wasn’t even ready to go on. He’s a Bear Cub Scout. He played soccer, baseball, flag-football, wrestling, and just started basketball.

Jonathan loves to draw and can often be found at the table coloring or creating some piece of artwork. He made a point to ask Santa for a snowboard, so he could follow after Mom, Dad and his brothers. He played soccer, baseball, flag-football, wrestling and will also play basketball.

Jeffery is in Pre-School. He was excited to start soccer this year. He also just completed his first wrestling season. He asked Santa for a snowboard, but that may have to wait a year or two. He really enjoyed snow tubing with Mom and some of his siblings last year.

Joshua is twice the bundle of energy Joseph is. He is adorably cute and a menace all rolled into one. He enjoys staying one step ahead of Mary creating mess and chaos throughout the house. He enjoys up rooting house plants. He is an excellent talker. He sings “We Will Rock You” and it is quite cute. During the spring and fall he enjoys when Mom takes him riding in the bike stroller with Jeffery.

Our family enjoyed their Williams Family Reunion with Sean’s family in Idaho. This was followed by a two week visit to Mary’s family in Iowa. It was a busy July, but nice to see family and friends. It was Jessica’s first time that far east and the Iowa humidity was a little challenging for a girl from the mountains.

This Fall Sean took the boys, and Mary once, to the BYU Cougar home football games. It was fun, and the boys enjoyed the opportunity to shake hands with players and get autographs.

We wish all of you a safe, spiritual and merry holiday season.
May the light of the Savior shine in your lives.

Love, The Williams Family

Awesome Saturday Part II

Saturday Afternoon I took Jackson, Joseph and Jonathan to the BYU vs Northern Iowa Game. BYU won 41-17!

Here is a pic of the Boys with Cosmo. I think Joseph is looking at a cheerleader :-)

Awesome Saturday Part I

Saturday Morning I took Mary Fly Fishing on the Middle Provo River. About a 5 min. drive from our home. This was my fist time out in 2 years :-(

This was Mary's first time on a river and with a fly rod. We only took one rod to keep it simple. So we both took turns while I tried to teach her the ropes. We found a spot where the Brown's were rising for bugs on the surface. I found the right fly in my box, only had 2 of them. We had a lot of strikes. I am quite rusty on setting the hook, so I missed quite a few, but managed to bring in one 8" Brown. Mary got a bigger one, about 12" that fought real well, and managed to get of the hook just as she got it to the shore.

The weather was gorgeous. The views were great. The fishing was good, even if we didn't catch much. Mary did great! I think I fished the Provo 4-5 times before I caught a fish.

Here are some pics.

Iowa Vacation Part III

Whew!... Finally home. The drive, in one 21 1/2 hour trip is brutal... for me and Joshua ;-). We only stopped for Lunch, Dinner, gas twice, and a few potty breaks.

The trip was fun, but it is good to be home.

Here is another slide show. This is Lake McBride, which is about 25 minutes South East of Cedar Rapids. A scenic tree lined lake that has a great swimming spot and kayaks, paddle boats, and a few cruising motor boats for hourly rental. We spent 1/2 a day there, and the kids had a blast building sand castles, swimming, and taking rides on the kayak with mom and dad.

Enjoy.

Iowa Vacation Part II

Today we visited the Amana Colonies, an old German Town South West of Cedar Rapids. It is famous for the numerous shops including a Bakery, Wollen Mill, Barns, Vintage Tractors and Farm equipment, Gift Shops, Craft Shops, Restaurants, a enormous Lily Pond, and home of the Worlds Largest Walnut Rocking Chair.

We got drizzled on by some rain. We caught some baby frogs and toads (the highlight of Jessica's trip). We sat in the rocking chair and some tractors. And we dragged 5 boys through toy and craft stores in search of souvenirs..... FUN FUN FUN.

Enjoy the slide show.

Iowa Vacation

Ok, so we have been sweatin' in the heartland. So far we toured the downtown that was under 5 to 20+ feet of water just weeks ago. Hundreds of homes and businesses destroyed and are now being condemned or need to be gutted and remodelled. It gave us some perspective on the blessing we enjoy. There are people without both a home and a place to work.... devastating.

Mary and I spent 4 separate evenings getting together with old High School friends, the second night was her 25th High School Reunion (Class of '83). I didn't bring the camera (oops) so we are wating for her friends to email some photos. It was fun to meet her friends from before we met. Some real nice and friendly people.

We spent a fun day at Lake McBride. The photos are on Gillian's cell phone, so a slide show is forth coming.

Today we got "down on the farm". Weapon's training, hanging out with Uncle Joe, watching a Midwest thunder/rain storm roll in, and relaxing on the front porch. On the way home we stopped in at Cousin Donnie's and played with his pet racoon, raised from a baby.... cute. Kind of a cross between a cat and dog.

So, that is it for now.... 4 days left.... we will post more pics later.

Plea for Winter's END!

Ok Snowboarding is a blast, but winter has got to end! Just had 3-4 inches of snow in Park City on May 1st! Ugh! At least it didn't stick in Heber, but it was cold. I am so looking forward to gardening, golfing, fishing..... SUMMER!!!

Poor kids have to play soccer (and baseball starting next week) in March like weather. Could use some of Al Gore's Global Warming about now ;-)

If you are in shorts/sandals by now, we in Heber are jealous.
Good Day!

Snowboarding Act II

OK, so Friday March 21st was the last day we went snowboarding this season. It was my 6th time (7th over all). Mary and Jackson went for their 4th time. We also brought Jed with us... he also went a few weeks ago. Over all it has been a blast to learn the sport, but not with out it's bumps and bruises. 2 weeks ago Mary took a tumble on her first run, she made a big snowboarding "no, no" which is don't look down. She caught the edge of her board and went head over heels. She tweaked her neck and shoulder muscles and after trying for one more run she had to call it a day.

On Friday she got back in the saddle. Jed, who is much more experienced spent some time with her for most of the day, coaching her technique. By the end of the day she was loving it, and flying down the mountain pretty well. Both Jackson and Joseph have taken to the sport very well and seem to really enjoy it. Joseph has a bit of that dare-devil in him and isn't afraid to take off through the trees or try a jump. Hopefully we can keep him wearing a helmet!

Now for me.... I have been doing pretty well and enjoy the sport. I went one time last year, and I must say that there is a BIG difference between snowboarding at 245 lbs and 210 lbs. However, the month of March (which encompassed the last 4 outings for me), was truly what they call "spring skiing". No fresh snow, thus the runs were icy and pretty much solid as concrete at the beginning of the day. If the sun comes out it gets slushy and a little softer. Somehow there was a magnet on the left side of my rear-end that had a strong attraction to the "hard pack" snow. So for 3 weeks in a row I fell about 3-4 times on that side and was quite sore for the next 4-5 days.

Of course by some Murphy's law, on my first run Friday, I had a fall and landed square on my left cheek and it was quite a jolt.... owwweeee!!! Now the irony of this tale was the fact that everything I wanted to be able to do with a snowboard finally kicked in this day. I was carving up the runs and having a great time. Only bending over to adjust bindings and sitting on the lift were a painful chore. By the time I finished my 11th run, which was actually my best run of the day, I couldn't bend over and touch my toes. So I called it quits and waited in the car while Mary & Jed did a final run.

Well in my adult life I have never been in such terrible, throbbing and shooting pain, from my rear end to behind my left knee. When we got home we ran over to my doctor and found out that I have a big ol' HEMATOMA which had taken residence in my left buttocks and down my left hamstring. So now I am resting up on ice packs and Oxycontin.... And here is the craziest part. I had SO much fun on that last run.... I wish I could go again! But doctor says no more snowboarding this year.

So now I look forward to the snow melting away, and giving way to fishing and golf.... at least those sports shouldn't be too intense :-)

Snowboarding at Sundance Ski Resort

Ok, these clips are low-res from my camera phone:

Gillian & Joseph Snowboarding
First Gillian comes by, real quick, then in the background I am trying to follow a little snowboarder which is Joseph.

Joseph & Jackson Snowboarding
The 3rd snowboarder coming down, and ducking under a boundary rope is (of course) Joseph. A few snowboarders later Jackson comes down, falls, gets up and falls again.

Mary Snowboarding
After a few boarders and skiers Mary comes down the Hill, wearing pink helmet.
